Hohenzollern Castle – a mountain of surprises Discover the Hohenzollern castle. Majestically the centre castle of the Hohenzollern dynasty, which dates back to the 11th century, sits enthroned on a conical mountain 855 meters over sea level. Even Emperor Wilhelm II mentioned: “The view from this castle in fact is worth a long journey!” Every year more than 300.000 guests from all over the world come to Germany’s southwest to see this impressive medieval building, which is the cradle of the Prussian Kings and German Emperors. When you pass the castle’s entrance – the Eagle’s Gate – you already will feel the magic of the former centuries. Through a long mysterious tunnel you get to the courtyard. Being guided through the castle’s inside you will be impressed by the banquet hall, the ancestral hall, the library, the king’s bedroom and the queen’s living room.
An absolute highlight is the Treasury. Here a display of valuable art-historical items can be discovered – among them precious silversmith works and china, snuff boxes of Frederick the Great, his original garment with the legendary bullet hole, the splendid robe of Queen Louise of Prussia as well as – being the most impressive exhibit – the Prussian Royal crown. And downstairs in the castle’s basement you can imagine how the soldiers dwelled in the bunker rooms of the 15th century. The Castle Restaurant spoils you with traditional dishes and offers room for groups of up to 100 guests to enjoy a meal together, to relax and have fun. During the summer season it entertains one of the most beautiful beer gardens in the Zollernalb district. Here you are welcome to bring your sandwich along.

Drinks of your choice as well as small snacks and sweets are available at the kiosk.
