During the English Garden-period Fürst Leopold zu Salm-Salm copied the Vierwaldstätter Lake, assembling the famous rock-formations and a Swiss chalet, all this in 1893, in remembrance of his honeymoon. Rocks and timber came by boat and horsecart from Switzerland. This English Garden, being under the custody of the German National Trust, was enlarged to this biotopewildlife-park of 56 ha in honour of the 100th anniversary of the garden. Walking leisurely on well built sandpaths through rural park-like landscape you‘ll find biotopes with open aviaries and enclosures of large dimensions for our native wildlife.
