The Mayener Grubenfeld belongs to the oldest and most significant basalt lava excavation sites. This porous stone is perfectly suited for millstones. A circular route leads you through the quarry landscape, down into the solidified lava stream of the Bellerberg volcano with its bizarre column formations. H ere evidence of Roman excavations can be found right next to the 20th century electronic crane.
