Tropical seas behind the walls of a monastery
The MEERESMUSEUM in the Old Town of Stralsund is situated in the former Dominican Monastery St. Katharinen. The exhibitions communicate the topics marine sciences, marine biology, fishery as well as fauna and flora of the Baltic Sea. Especially impressive are the 15 meters long skeleton of a fin whale, a polar bear, a giant spider crab and a leatherback sea turtle. In the 36 tropical aquaria one can observe nurse sharks, cute sea horses, colorful coral fish and sea turtles in Germany’s biggest sea turtle aquarium with a 3m x 8m big panel.
